REMCo Luncheon Panel: Black Male Librarianship

Thursday, October 16, 2025 | 12:00 p.m.

Marriott Hearn A/B

The Roundtable on Ethnic and Minority Concerns (REMCo) invites you to its signature luncheon program, featuring a dynamic panel discussion focused on Black Male Librarianship. In alignment with the conference theme—Books and Beyond: Navigating New Frontiers—this session will explore how Black men in librarianship are charting new paths, responding to the evolving demands of the profession, and navigating the challenges of changing times in both public and academic library settings.
Our esteemed panelists include:
• John Light, Jr., Youth Services Supervisor, Bull Street Library, Savannah, Georgia
• Nasir Jean-Paul, Ph.D. Candidate and Library Studio Fellow at Davidson College
• Billy Allen, Branch Manager and Storyteller, Las Vegas Public Libraries, Las Vegas, Nevada

Moderated by Alan Bailey, Professor Emeritus, East Carolina University, the panel will explore the professional journeys, advocacy work, and community impact of Black male library leaders and emerging scholars. Through personal narratives and critical reflection, this discussion will highlight issues of representation, institutional support, and professional development in a time of significant transformation within the field.
This luncheon provides a vital opportunity to engage with timely perspectives and deepen our collective understanding of equity, leadership, and resilience in librarianship.
